TEN KATE SHOPPER

THE TEN KATE SHOPPER

The Ten Kate market is our favourite market in Amsterdam West. Famous for its vegetables, nuts and exotic spices, it’s also frequented by an incredible hummus stand, and a wild variety of people. The perfect place to fill up your tote (to the brim) for the weekend.

ON THE ROAD WITH THE TEN KATE SHOPPER

UNBEGUN bags belong to the street. Made from recycled market stall covers, the bags feel their best in the city’s buzz. For our #BAGTOTHESTREETS series we asked some of our Amsterdam friends to take us to their hotspots. Back to the streets, where the bags belong.

CURIOUS HOW WE DO IT?

So our shoppers are handmade and locally produced. But how? You may be wondering. Well, after the market stall covers have been washed and scrubbed, they’re cut into shape using custom made patterns. They are then sown together by one of our (very gifted) seamstresses. Maartje, a former costume designer, is one of them. From her studio on the outskirts of the city, she’s been making UNBEGUN bags for several years now. Read her story in How it’s made.
